Welcome to the official website of People’s Responsible Organisation of United Dharavi (PROUD). Since our establishment in 1979, we have been dedicated to the socio-economic empowerment of the Dharavi community. Together, we strive to create a just, humane, and democratic society where every individual is respected and has equal opportunities.
People’s Responsible Organisation of United Dharavi (PROUD) is a non-profit, secular, and community-based organization in Dharavi. We focus on grassroots community organizing and socio-political empowerment to address the basic civic needs of our community, such as drinking water, sanitation, health, and education. Our mission is to empower the oppressed, marginalized, and weaker sections of society, ensuring they have equal opportunities and play an active role in decision-making processes. Our vision is to build a society free from exploitation and hunger, where the urban poor are empowered and respected.
Our Mission
Our mission at PROUD-अभिमान is to work towards a just and humane society by empowering the oppressed, marginalized, and weaker sections of Dharavi. We strive to ensure equal opportunities for basic civic amenities such as drinking water, sanitation, health, education, housing, employment, and livelihood options. Through grassroots organizing, economic empowerment programs, and community engagement, we aim to uplift the lives of Dharavi residents, particularly women and youth, fostering self-reliance and active participation in societal development.

Our Approach
At PROUD, we believe in the power of grassroots organizing and community participation. Our approach involves working closely with residents to identify their needs and develop sustainable solutions. We focus on economic empowerment, particularly for women and youth, through savings and credit programs, income-generating activities, and social businesses. We also organize slum tours to raise awareness and generate funds for our initiatives. By fostering a sense of unity and self-reliance, we aim to build a stronger, more resilient community.
